Property in Marsascala, Malta
Marsascala is a small and charming fishing village in the south-eastern region of Malta. Through the years, this village has changed from being a small sleepy village due to the fear of pirates to a popular sea-side resort that it is today.
For much of its past, the village was a tranquil backwater, yet it has had its share i
n the Islands’ main historical events. Marsascala Bay made easy landing for pirates who used to roam the sea looking for treasures and slaves. Consequently, the Knights set about improving the bay's defenses by building the imposing St. Thomas Tower and De Redin Tower to watch out on the approach of the enemy.
Marsascala remained a tiny fishing port until the advent of the 2nd World War. Then people from the Cottonera area started to build summer houses in Marsascala. They later decided to become all year round residents, which has slowly transformed this village. The deep inlet that shapes this village is still used by fishermen to moor their colourful Luzzu. It is also a lovely place from where tourists and locals alike can gaze at the fishing boats which crowd the bay or enjoy a relaxed stroll where most of the bars, restaurants and cafes can be found. These walks usually take place in the evenings when the temperature is lot cooler.
